Master Thesis: Mapping the Unseen: Electromagnetic Effects on Measurements in Anechoic Chambers
Technology, Data & Digital · Software & Web Development · Software Engineering
In short
This Master's thesis project in Lund, Sweden, focuses on investigating electromagnetic interference in anechoic chambers for accurate antenna measurements at 5G frequencies. You will use AI, simulations, and lab work to identify and mitigate sources of disturbance from antenna holders and other equipment.
Responsibilities
- Characterize selected 3D-printed materials, including relative permittivity and dielectric loss tangent.
- Develop and validate simulation models of antenna holders and surrounding mechanical structures.
- Perform controlled measurements using progressively more complex configurations.
- Investigate the effects of materials, geometry, distances, metallic components, cables, motors, chamber walls, and RF absorbers.
- Quantify effects on radiation patterns, amplitude, phase, gain, cross-polarization, and repeatability.
- Identify dominant disturbance sources and evaluate practical mitigation strategies.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Interest in electromagnetics, antenna technology, RF engineering, or electromagnetic measurements.
- Basic understanding of electromagnetic theory and antenna characteristics.
- Analytical, structured, curious, and comfortable working independently in a laboratory environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to present technical results in English.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools is an advantage.
- Experience with programming is an advantage.
- Experience with RF measurements is an advantage.
- Experience with material characterization is an advantage.
- Experience with uncertainty analysis is an advantage.
Benefits
- Master's thesis project opportunity.
