We are seeking a Manager, Radio System Design to lead and grow a new R&D team in Yokohama, Japan, focusing on next-generation radio products for mobile networks (5G/6G). This role involves people leadership, technical responsibility, and shaping the R&D center's culture and operations.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, coach, and develop engineers and technical leaders, fostering a creative, inclusive, and learning-oriented culture.
- Lead the Radio Systemization area, including OA studies, technical coordination, requirement handling, and functional systemization.
- Coordinate activities across hardware, firmware, software, functional systemization, integration, verification, production, and product management teams.
- Ensure technical quality, predictable deliveries, and effective design and release activities.
- Act as an accountable design owner or technical leader, taking ownership of decisions, dependencies, risks, and results.
- Establish and improve development flows, design verification, test strategies, documentation, and traceability.
- Drive continuous improvement, reuse of established solutions, knowledge sharing, and efficient ways of working.
- Plan competence and resource build-up.
- Represent the Yokohama team in global governance, project, supplier, and stakeholder forums.
- Support a strong customer and business focus while ensuring compliance with relevant Ericsson processes, standards, and product requirements.
Requirements
- A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience from radio product development, systems engineering, hardware/software design, integration, or a related R&D area.
- Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional activities, or complex development work. Previous line-management experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of radio products and the ability to understand, support, and challenge technical issues across organizational boundaries.
- Experience with product development processes, design quality, verification, release, and lifecycle management.
- A structured, analytical, and results-oriented approach, combined with sound judgment when information is incomplete.
- Strong coaching, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Japanese language skills and experience working in international, distributed organizations are an advantage.
- A genuine interest in radio technology, employee development, innovation, and continuous improvement.
