Saab UK is looking for a Lead Test Engineer to join their Fareham team. This role involves engineering test solutions for electro-mechanical products, managing the test engineering group, and overseeing the full lifecycle of test engineering from definition to execution. The ideal candidate will have a relevant engineering qualification, experience in personnel supervision, and strong skills in National Instruments LabView/TestStand, scripting languages, and data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Lead Test Engineer within the department, guiding and supporting general Test Engineers.
- Line manager for the Test Engineering group, managing workload and external third parties.
- Analyze requirements and conformance specifications to derive test requirements.
- Plan, design, and communicate test cases to verify and validate requirements across electro-mechanical systems.
- Responsible for closure of workload packages, management of formal Test Reports, and evidence-based materials.
- Define the design of test jigs, harnesses, and software for test case execution, including automation.
- Implement data processing/filtering software to extract relevant results into databases/analysis software.
- Manage internal test facilities (test tanks, ovens, pools, lifting equipment).
- Liaise with external test facilities (EMC, vibration, pools, etc.).
- Perform fault finding and failure analysis.
- Document and present results and findings.
Requirements
- HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Competent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
- Previous experience in personnel supervision/management.
- Ability to work unsupervised to tight timescales.
- Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of Software principles (embedded and associated tool chains).
- Competent and able to use Microsoft Office to a high level.
- Experienced and high-level competence with National Instruments LabView and TestStand software tool chains.
- Experienced with creating/modifying software scripts/programs (e.g., Python, Visual Basic, C, C++).
- 3 years in a test-focused role or within test equipment development.
- Proven experience in data capture and analysis.
- Expert in Verification & Validation processes and associated tools and techniques.
- Proven experience working on multi-disciplinary systems (electrical, mechanical, software).
- Excellent knowledge of test equipment and platforms.
- Data capture - logging.
- Ability to create high-quality test reports.
- Innovative and creative mind-set with technical awareness.
- Excellent communicator (written and verbal).
- Enthusiasm, drive, and personality.
Desired Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Desirable).
- Formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering and/or Software (Desirable).
- National Instruments certified developer (Desirable).
- Experienced with working with system engineering / project management tools (e.g., EA / DOORS) (Desirable).
- Experience in the offshore and/or subsea industry (Desirable).
- Knowledge of product certification, best-practice and industry standards (Desirable).
- Knowledge of compliance standards and certification (CE / DNV) (Desirable).
- Expert / advanced user of Microsoft Excel (Desirable).
- Experience with data archiving / controlled repositories management (Desirable).
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role (Desirable).
