In short

Synopsys seeks a Hardware Application Engineer to provide technical support for emulation and prototyping systems. This role involves troubleshooting hardware failures, performing diagnostics, and ensuring system stability for customers, with a focus on remote work and occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and infrastructure stability for ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping systems deployed at customer sites and in data centers
  • Diagnose and isolate hardware-level failures from customer design issues, working through physical configuration, cabling, power, firmware, and system diagnostics
  • Proactively run diagnostics, track downtime patterns, and schedule software and firmware upgrades to prevent issues before customers encounter them
  • Coordinate with Synopsys hardware R&D teams to escalate complex platform issues, provide field data, and validate fixes in real deployment environments
  • Maintain detailed documentation of hardware incidents, resolutions, and system configurations to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Work remotely and travel locally to customer sites or data centers during critical escalations and installation backlog periods, up to 25% of the time
  • Communicate status, timelines, and technical tradeoffs clearly to customers, field engineers, and internal stakeholders during active incidents

Requirements

  • Under 2 years of hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, system troubleshooting, or platform support
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to isolate hardware issues from design or software problems in complex systems
  • Comfort working with physical hardware including cabling, power systems, firmware updates, and diagnostic tools
  • Ability to coordinate across teams, document technical issues clearly, and communicate status during live incidents
  • Willingness to work remotely with local travel to customer sites during critical escalations and installation periods
  • Experience with or willingness to learn ZeBu emulation and HAPS prototyping platforms through hands-on training

Desired Qualifications

  • You can walk into a situation where hardware is down and methodically work through the possible causes without jumping to conclusions or creating noise
  • You are organized enough to track multiple customer systems, schedule proactive maintenance windows, and follow up on open issues without things falling through the cracks
  • You communicate clearly under pressure, whether that means explaining a delay to a customer or writing up an incident report that someone else can learn from
  • You are comfortable being the hardware expert in the room, even when that room is a video call with people in three time zones who need you to make a call quickly
  • You do not need someone looking over your shoulder to stay on top of diagnostics, upgrades, or follow-up work, you manage your own workload and flag issues early
  • You like solving real problems on real systems more than theoretical work, and you take ownership of keeping things running

Benefits

  • Comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits
  • Total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings
  • Potential for an annual bonus, equity, and other discretionary bonuses
  • Competitive total rewards package
  • Talented people of every background feel valued and supported
