Role overview

This role reports to the Senior Director, Field and Partner Marketing for EMEA, Asia Pacific and India, with a strong dotted line report into the Vice President and General Manager for India.  

You will have responsibility across all functions of the role, including strategy, planning, budgeting, execution and measurement of key activities.

Cross functional collaboration is key; helping define the business goals of the region, successful engagement with functional leaders, and translating the ways marketing can help the region achieve their desired results is the task at hand.  But no single leader can accomplish these goals by themselves; they must add value to an established and successful field team, be inciteful, leverage past successes and learn from past failures.  In the end it’s about applying best practices, honed though experience, for accelerated growth.

Scope of responsibilities:

Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to the India field marketing team to not only deliver on objectives but continually seek new ways to improve how we engage and support our customers and partners.

Provide input and regional insights into the overall global Marketing strategy and maintain a close relationship and best practice sharing with other regional field marketing groups.

Leverage and adapt corporate marketing programs, content and activities to help promote Ciena brand awareness and thought leadership and support revenue growth in India.

Develop and execute on named strategic Account Based Marketing (ABM) plans into key strategic accounts.

Promote and drive the marketing elements of the Ciena Partner Network (CPN) partner program into Ciena’s Carrier Managed Service (CMS) and System Integrator partners, including business plans, marketing plans, Marketing Development Fund (MDF) spend and budget control.

Develop/regionalize solution and application value propositions content for the India market.

Work closely with the global events team to define and execute on India target events based on business and solution focus areas, including defining messaging, target customers, speaking slots.

Work closely with the corporate PR team to define the India PR plan. 

Manage third party suppliers – including marketing and event agencies.

Experience

·        Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, engineering or related field.

·        10+ years marketing and/or telecoms experience, including leadership stints in any or all of the following; Product/portfolio marketing, Account Based Marketing (ABM), partner marketing, vertical segment marketing, demand generation, market research and audience marketing.

·        In-depth understanding of the telecoms industry and services across one or more sectors including telecoms service providers, system integrators, cloud providers.

·        Experience in partner marketing, MDF best-practices, and partner enablement

·        Proven writing, editing, verbal communication skills.  

·        Ability to successfully lead and navigate in a multicultural environment.  

·        Strong foundation knowledge of modern digital tools and storytelling strategies.

·        Proven project and budget management skills.

·        Proven track record of building relationships and partnerships internally and externally.

·        Strong program management skills and a drive towards overachievement.

·        Proven leadership and people management experience and innovation to utilize resources effectively; ideally with a field and channel marketing role.

·        Strong understanding of networking products, services, software and architectures within the marketplace Ciena plays.

·        Proven understanding of all facets of marketing; brand building, revenue marketing, channel management are three key areas.

  • Analytical capability to share insights with internal teams (for dashboards/reporting/market intelligence view covering metrics on campaigns/site visits etc)
