Microsoft is seeking a Data Center Technician (DCT) for a fully on-site, full-time role. The DCT will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT equipment in data centers, contributing to the infrastructure powering Microsoft's cloud services. This role offers growth opportunities and requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred experience in IT support.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, install, perform diagnostics, troubleshoot, replace, and decommission equipment in data centers.
- Understand the functions and interactions of network and server equipment.
- Provide input for process improvements to enhance service quality and efficiency.
- Complete assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with KPIs.
- Develop understanding of standard processes and procedures for IT datacenter technology.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing information and partnering with other shifts.
- Complete required security, data management, and EHS training and comply with policies and procedures.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and promote a culture of safety.
- Manage service delivery by maintaining awareness of KPIs and escalating issues as needed.
- Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups/shutdowns for hardware.
- Perform decommissions, simple changes, and refreshes of infrastructure cabling, network, storage, and server equipment.
- Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Verify grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling to align with safety protocols and deployment standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Must pass CJIS background check.
- Must have authorization to work in the United States that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Verification of citizenship required due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
- Experience supporting United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers.
- Ability to travel less than 25%.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Occasional climbing of ladders, frequent climbing of stairs/ramps.
- Occasional lifting up to 25lbs / 11kg without assistance.
- Occasional lifting 25-50lbs / 11-22.5kg with lift assistance.
- Occasional push or pull 50-75 lbs / 22.5-34kg with assistive device.
- Normal visual acuity (near, far and peripheral with correction).
- Normal color vision for electrical work.
