Synopsys is seeking a Staff Engineer for Applications Engineering to support Japanese Aerospace and Defense customers. Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery and solution design for Japanese Aerospace and Defense customers, translating their product design challenges into simulation workflows using Ansys CAE software including LS-DYNA, Mechanical, and Motion.
- Execute product demonstrations, technical evaluations, and proof-of-concept projects that prove out simulation accuracy and workflow efficiency on real customer problems.
- Negotiate technical success criteria with customers and internal teams, defining what good looks like before a project starts so everyone knows when you have delivered.
- Support sales opportunities throughout the lifecycle, from early technical discovery through contract negotiation, ensuring the technical story is clear and the solution is scoped correctly.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Technical Product teams to translate regional customer requirements into product feature requests and test new releases on industrial problems.
- Develop application best practices and deliver training sessions for customers, helping them get more value out of Synopsys solutions after the sale closes.
- Author technical content for conferences and field marketing, sharing expertise that builds credibility in the Japanese market.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years, Master's plus 3 years, or PhD plus 1 year of hands-on experience in computational mechanics and structural analysis.
- Deep knowledge of strength of materials, vibration, fatigue, and thermal analysis, with professional expertise in at least one area such as Explicit Dynamics, Vibration, Thermal Stress, or Multibody Dynamics.
- CAE simulation experience in Aerospace and Defense, Industrial Equipment, Energy, Automotive, or 3D-IC and advanced packaging industries.
- Native Japanese language proficiency or JLPT N1 certification to support Japanese Aerospace and Defense accounts with full fluency in technical and business contexts.
- Logical problem-solving skills and the ability to interact proactively with customers to understand their design needs and workflows.
- English proficiency at CEFR B2 level or higher is preferred for collaboration with global teams and product groups.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Ansys LS-DYNA, Ansys Mechanical, or Ansys Motion is a strong plus, as is demonstrated use of other commercial CAE, CAD, EDA, or PLM software.
- Python scripting or workflow automation experience is a plus, you see opportunities to make repetitive tasks disappear and you know how to build or propose solutions using tools like PyAnsys.
- Hands-on testing and data collection experience makes you credible with customers because you understand the gap between simulation and reality and can speak to it honestly.
