Synopsys is seeking a technically skilled, customer-focused Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer with a strong background in Aerospace & Defence to drive innovations in digital mission engineering and simulation. The role involves collaborating with sales teams, leading customer engagements, and supporting product development in Spain or France.
Responsibilities
- Work independently within multi-disciplinary teams to grow business for simulation products, particularly in the Aerospace and Defence sector.
- Demonstrate technical mastery in engineering simulation techniques, especially within aerospace domains, to provide high-level technical support to customers.
- Regularly interact with aerospace customers to understand their solution needs, key business initiatives, and engineering design workflows.
- Lead complex customer engagements throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, articulating value propositions to Director or C-level audiences.
- Gather and document relevant metrics to demonstrate the impact of technical engagements and proposed solutions.
- Gather customer requirements to support software improvement and collaborate with product development teams.
- Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and create best practices.
- Mentor junior application engineers, fostering their technical growth and customer-facing skills.
- Support field and digital marketing efforts, including authoring conference presentations, technical papers, and webinars.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, and product management/development to drive customer success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Aerospace/Astronautical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 4-5 years of hands-on professional experience.
- Fluent in writing and speaking both Spanish/French and English.
- Prior experience in modelling and simulation of complex aerospace systems (space launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, defence systems, etc).
- Demonstrated understanding of aerospace engineering practices, product development lifecycles, experience with building solutions using simulation technology, and deploying those solutions within customers’ engineering workflows.
- Competency in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and familiarity with Python, MATLAB, C#, Java.
- Familiarity with Communications, Radars, & Sensors Systems (RF propagation, link analysis, jamming/interference, detection and tracking).
- Knowledge of Multiphysics tools (e.g. structural, fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, thermal, etc).
- Track record of delivering exceptional customer outcomes and contributing to revenue impact with A&D industry.
- Ability to organize and drive multiple complex projects across geographically diverse locations.
- Strong sense of urgency.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated use of Ansys DME software (STK, ODTK) is preferred.
- Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is preferred.
- Familiarity with Astrodynamics (orbital mechanics, trajectory optimization) and/or Flight Dynamics (aircraft stability and control, aerodynamic performance) is preferred.
- Excellent communicator, able to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Customer-centric, with a consultative approach and strong relationship-building skills.
