Thesis worker 30 hp - Hydrogen exhaust meets winter: Catalyst durability under freezing conditions

Manufacturing & Production · Production & Assembly · Manufacturing Engineering

In short

This thesis project investigates the durability of hydrogen exhaust catalysts under freezing conditions and in the presence of water. The role of washcoat formulation and binder selection will be examined to improve coating stability and adhesion. The work will involve theoretical and laboratory experiments, with opportunities for collaboration with experts at TRATON/Scania and KTH.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate potential degradation mechanisms of coated catalytic materials subjected to freezing temperatures.
  • Focus on the role of washcoat formulation and binder selection in determining coating stability, adhesion, and resistance to mechanical damage.
  • Design experiments and conduct testing.
  • Perform theoretical and hands-on work in the laboratory.
  • Utilize advanced characterization techniques.
  • Collaborate with experts at TRATON/Scania and KTH.

Requirements

  • Master's student in chemical engineering or equivalent.
  • Interest in experimental work.
  • Ability to address technical challenges in the laboratory.
  • Curious mindset and a will to see things through from idea to final product.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to get closer to TRATON/Scania and build relationships for the future.
  • Many employees began their TRATON/Scania career with their degree project.
  • Work with driven experts from many aspects of engines and exhaust aftertreatment technologies.
  • Work performed at Scania Materials Technology in Södertälje and Process Technology, KTH.
