Job Description for Technical leader - Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) 

Technical Leader in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is responsible for developing, validating, and applying advanced fluid dynamics models and simulations. This role involves working on CFD projects from concept through completion, ensuring high-quality results. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, numerical methods, and CFD software, along with excellent project management skills.

Role:  

In this role, you will contribute to the state-of-the-art competency development of CFD to support the product development for different divisions and product companies within Atlas Copco Group.

You remain up to date with the last developments in the field of CFD. You identify opportunities to improve and/or expand our calculation models and tools. And together with your colleagues you introduce these improvements in our processes worldwide and develop the CFD simulations in Atlas Copco Group. 

Responsibilities: 

Lead Complex Technology Projects 

  • Technically lead the CFD team in developing, implementing, and validating CFD models and simulations for various projects.
  • Offer technical expertise and guidance to the team on the underlying physics of the problem at hand, fluid dynamics, numerical methods, and the use of CFD software.
  • Manage multiple CFD projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
  • Develop and maintain best practices, standards, and guidelines for CFD analysis within the organization.
  • Mentor and train team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and manufacturing, to integrate CFD analysis into product development.

Competency Building 

  • Stay up to date with advancements in CFD technology and methods, and implement new techniques as appropriate
  • Introduce new tools, techniques, and methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Lead and implement technology & automation projects within the team. 
  • Collaborate with the Service Delivery Head to analyse customer needs and recommend new competencies for development based on customer leads.
  • Support SDH in assessing the team's skill levels against required proficiency standards, creating a skill matrix, identifying competency gaps, and recruiting new talent to fill those gaps.

Quality Assurance & Process Improvement 

  • Establish and enhance review processes to guarantee the technical accuracy and quality of deliverables.
  • Develop dashboards and monitoring tools to assess the quality of deliverables and formulate action plans for continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication 

  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the CFD team and Key stakeholders. 
  • Communicate technical challenges and solutions effectively to all relevant parties. 
  • Foster a collaborative environment by building strong relationships with stakeholders and contributing to meet expectations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering with a focus on fluid dynamics or CFD. Bachelor’s in engineering from reputed colleges will be also considered.
  • Master’s with 10+ years of experience or Ph. D with 6+ years of experience in CFD analysis and simulation, with a proven track record of successful project management.
  • Proficiency in CFD software such as OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and numerical methods.
  • Experience with Multiphysics simulations and coupling CFD with other analysis methods
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) for CFD automation and post-processing.
  • Experience in developing the system level simulation models using 1D tools.
  • Experience in Multiphase, Reaction modelling, Aeroacoustics. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in CFD analysis.
