Volvo Buses is looking for an experienced SVP Legal & General Counsel to lead its global legal function. This role involves supporting the company's strategy, managing legal operations, and ensuring compliance with global policies and laws. The position reports to the President of Volvo Buses and is part of the leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the legal function has formulated and agreed objectives to support Volvo Buses’ strategy and business plans.
  • Ensure the legal function is properly resourced with capacity, commitment, and competence to provide high-quality legal advice, negotiation support, training, and guidelines.
  • Lead and challenge the legal function, inspiring motivation, knowledge, and cross-functional teamwork within Volvo Buses and the Volvo Group.
  • Participate in strategy formulation, business decisions, and contribute to the overall development and success of Volvo Buses.
  • Implement Volvo Group policies, strategies, and procedures within the legal area and promote legal compliance.
  • Support the implementation of the Volvo Group compliance program, covering competition laws, anti-corruption laws, export control laws, and data privacy laws.
  • Champion a culture in line with Volvo Group values and principles.
  • Participate in Boards, Councils, and Committees as appropriate.
  • Represent the legal function with external stakeholders and provide reporting to Group Legal & Compliance.

Requirements

  • Master of Laws degree.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply relevant legal, commercial, and financial aspects.
  • Strong personal credibility and integrity.
  • Extensive experience in business/transaction management.
  • Experience providing advice to senior and top-level management or the board of directors.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Extensive commercial contracting experience, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Experience of leading, mentoring, and coaching colleagues.
  • Experience initiating and driving improvement, including change activities.
  • A can-do mindset with high drive and energy.
  • Strong creative problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience of tender business is a merit.
  • Experience of project management is a merit.
