Amazon Recommerce India is seeking a Sr Applied Scientist to build and adapt ML models for the Indian market. This role involves end-to-end ownership of ML projects, from problem framing to production deployment, focusing on automated returns grading, defect detection, disposition prediction, and dynamic pricing. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to improve recovery value and customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build ML models for automated returns grading to predict salability with minimal human touch.
  • Develop computer-vision models for defect detection, condition assessment, and anomaly identification.
  • Build disposition-prediction and routing models to direct units to their highest-value recovery path.
  • Develop pricing and recovery-optimization models for dynamic, grade- and condition-aware pricing.
  • Adapt Worldwide ML models to India by retraining, recalibrating, and re-evaluating for local data, catalog, and operations.
  • Own the full model lifecycle: problem framing, data pipelines, feature engineering, training, evaluation, monitoring, and retraining.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams.
  • Use modern GenAI/LLM tooling to accelerate research and delivery.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience.
  • PhD or Master's degree.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
  • Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
