Qualcomm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in San Diego, CA, to join their Central Hardware Systems (CHS) PCB CAD team. This role involves global management and support of PWB EDA tools, process automation using scripting languages like Python and VB Script, and providing design services and consulting for cutting-edge PCB development across various Qualcomm platforms.
Responsibilities
- Support global tool deployment, development of process automation, design services, methodology support, project consulting, and evaluation of new EDA tools.
- Provide full proficiency on board layout tools like Cadence Allegro and Siemens Xpedition.
- Offer substantial exposure to schematic entry tools including OrCAD CIS, Concept HDL, and Xpedition Designer.
- Manage end-to-end knowledge of Schematic and Layout design flows.
- Run DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis and validation on Gerber / ODB++ data for PCB fabrication.
- Customize EDA tools and processes using VB Script, Python, Cadence Skill, Ravel, Java, or Perl.
- Evaluate PCB design trade-offs for high-quality, cost-effective boards meeting project schedules.
- Maintain technical coordination with Engineering and CAD, resolving PCB design issues.
- Understand and apply PCB technology and process trends to Qualcomm designs.
- Communicate effectively with project peers and engineering personnel via email and Teams meetings, providing status reports and presentations.
- Understand project goals and individual contributions toward those goals.
Requirements
- Experience with electronic file exchanges between PCB and mechanical software tools.
- Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, capabilities, and limitations.
- Familiarity with PCB design practices and industry standards.
- Understanding of PCB stack-up development and controlled impedance requirements.
- Experience installing EDA tools and libraries.
- Minimum Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical technology, or a related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
- OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
- OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
- 2+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- 7+ years actively involved in supporting electrical engineering design tools such as Siemens Xpedition, Cadence Allegro, or PADS.
- 4+ years developing automation in Xpedition and / or Allegro tools using VB Script, Perl, Python, Java, Skill or Ravel.
- Experience maintaining Siemens ICDB servers.
- Understanding of PCB via technology types: through-hole, blind, buried, and micro-via.
- Awareness of power and signal integrity design practices and analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and / or Electrical Engineering.
- Preferred Bachelors in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
