Microsoft CoreAI is looking for a Software Engineer to build industry-leading Responsible AI services, focusing on identifying, measuring, and mitigating AI risks. The role involves AI-native development, coding, system design, and driving engineering excellence within a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

Improve AI tools and practices across the SDLC, owning AI-generated artifacts and embedding Responsible AI controls.
Lead and mentor teams in delivering secure, performant, and maintainable code using modern coding patterns and strong diagnostics.
Own architecture and design decisions for complex systems, evaluating trade-offs for security, privacy, scalability, and resiliency.
Drive best practices, learning, and developer tooling to raise engineering standards, especially around security and automation.
Plan and execute delivery with experimentation, clear success metrics, secure rollout strategies, and automated deployments.
Build and improve observability and on-call readiness, leading incident response and reducing incident volume through systemic fixes.
Partner with stakeholders to validate user requirements, capture needs, and define measurable feedback loops.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Hands-on development in one or more modern programming languages (C#, Java, Python).
Strong understanding of core software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, scalable system principles).
Experience developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining production-quality code.
Working knowledge of cloud, distributed systems, or service-based architectures, with exposure to reliability, performance, and monitoring concepts.
Experience designing and architecting business solutions and guiding projects through the engineering lifecycle.
Experience driving solution improvement and excellence through monitoring and testing systems.
Ability to employ computer science principles to design, develop, and optimize scalable algorithms and distributed systems.
Ability to solve problems and make decisions through a swift, informed, and strategic data-driven approach.

Desired Qualifications

14+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with coding in languages such as C#, Python.
Solid technical judgment and problem-solving skills, including designing and implementing scoped solutions, debugging complex issues, refactoring code, and improving reliability and performance.
Ability to collaborate effectively and influence peers, participating constructively in design and code reviews.
Demonstrated collaboration and emerging leadership skills, such as mentoring engineers and owning well-defined components or features.
Exposure to AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), and core machine-learning concepts.
Interest or early experience applying AI/LLMs to real-world software engineering problems.
