Microsoft CoreAI is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build foundational platforms and services for next-generation Generative AI applications. The role involves designing and developing large-scale, cloud-native systems for advanced agentic applications, focusing on observability, evaluation, and optimization.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and delivery of large-scale AI services and platforms focusing on scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
Design and implement distributed systems and cloud services to run agents reliably at enterprise scale.
Drive innovation in observability, automation, deployment safety, and operational efficiency.
Improve developer and researcher workflows through better tooling, abstractions, and automation.
Debug and optimize interactions across models, data, and infrastructure.
Contribute to technical design and implementation across the software development lifecycle.
Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, reliability, and operational excellence.
Collaborate with partner teams across CoreAI and Azure.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
OR equivalent experience.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Desired Qualifications

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
5+ years technical engineering experience designing and delivering highly available, large-scale cloud services and distributed systems.
Demonstrated proficiency around leveraging AI to build systems and a passion to make this technology accessible to everyone.
3+ years of technical engineering experience with machine learning or AI systems.

Benefits

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
For specific work locations in the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
Another role (IC5) has a typical base pay range across the U.S. of USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year.
For IC5 roles in the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
