Senior Mechanical Designer – Cryomechanical Systems
Technology, Data & Digital · Software & Web Development · Software Engineering
In short
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end 3D CAD for cryogenic subassemblies and integrations, including cold fingers, mK and 4K stages, radiation shields, vacuum interfaces, and cable/harness routing fixtures.
- Create detailed 2D drawings with GD&T and tolerance stackups.
- Build and steward top assembly and BOM, managing part numbering, configurations, ECO/ECR workflows, and PDM/PLM tools.
- Lead CryoME design reviews with standard packages including CAD, drawings, specifications, materials, coatings, finishes, IQC, cryogenic screening, manufacturing/assembly flows, risks, and schedules.
- Translate system requirements into mechanical specifications for thermal anchoring, heat-load budgets, CTE mismatch management, vacuum sealing, vibration isolation, RF/DC cable management, and integration across temperature stages.
- Create SOPs with detailed work instructions for installation, data recording, and communication of engineering intent.
- Drive DFM/DFX with suppliers by generating clear build packages, supporting fabrication, dispositioning nonconformances with data-driven assessments, and capturing as-built changes.
- Embody Microsoft's Culture and Values.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in industry or R&D; OR Master's Degree AND 4+ years experience; OR Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience; OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
