As a Senior Data Center Technician at Microsoft, you will be responsible for the installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of data center equipment. This fully on-site, full-time role requires strong IT hardware knowledge and the ability to guide other technicians. Experience in a production data center environment and relevant certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to quickly identify issues.
  • Decommission hardware for complex changes and/or systems.
  • Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and replacement work to technicians.
  • Ensure quality execution as defined by organizational standards.
  • Assist and provide guidance to technicians to complete challenging tasks.
  • Ensure technicians perform post-execution quality checks and verify compliance with standards.
  • Verify security compliance for decommissions and process data-bearing devices for destruction.
  • Maintain awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Train and mentor technicians through on-the-job training.
  • Attend, conduct, or assist in conducting daily safety briefings and complete required safety training.
  • Embody company culture and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Good experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work shifts, including non-standard business hours (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Fluency in conversational English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree in computer science or other field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Vendor-Specific Network Certifications.
