Ericsson is establishing a new R&D center in Yokohama, Japan, focused on Radio and Software development. They are seeking a Radio HW Digital Designer to contribute to the full product lifecycle of future radio systems. This role involves design studies, system architecture analysis, high-speed link budget analysis, component evaluation, IC verification, hardware integration, and system-level performance verification.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and development of future radio products, from prototypes to product development and field support.
- Participate in early design studies and system-level architecture analysis.
- Perform system modeling and high-speed link budget analysis.
- Evaluate and qualify new components.
- Develop and execute test scripts for IC verification.
- Integrate, configure, and tune radio hardware during the design phase.
- Perform system-level performance verification and validation.
- Support end-to-end system performance analysis throughout product development.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree with extensive relevant experience may also be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in digital circuit design.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., SerDes).
- Experience with timing analysis.
- Experience with signal integrity (SI) design.
- Experience in board bring-up, debugging, and system-level root cause analysis.
- Hands-on experience with schematic design and PCB layout review tools (Cadence, Altium, or Allegro).
- Strong understanding of high-speed design guidelines and SI/PI considerations.
- Solid understanding of system architecture (CPU-based systems, FPGA applications, power distribution systems, clock design).
- Knowledge of EMC, thermal design, and product compliance, including validation and certification support.
- Fluent in English; Japanese is a strong advantage.
- Experience working in Agile and Lean environments.
- Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with SI/PI simulation tools (nice to have) (HyperLynx, Ansys, SiSoft, ADS, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal source analyzers).
- Strong understanding of design trade-offs (power, noise, performance).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving and innovative mindset.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills (engineering, system, and product teams).
- Strong interest in knowledge sharing and collaboration.
