As a Principal Engineer Architect, you will lead critical growth initiatives for Windows AI experiences, partnering across Microsoft. Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership at the WXP IDC GM level, setting up, reviewing, and signing off on technical and architectural decisions across various GEM teams.
- Act as a driver, consultant, and champion for technical choices and directions, representing GEM projects at Director level communities.
- Contribute to the architecture community by ensuring representation and feedback for all groups, and connecting with the Principal IC community within W+D.
- Drive and contribute to producing documents that support offline sharing, commenting, and review of significant technical decisions.
- Define templates for quick specifications of large-scale, multi-organizational architectures with consistent detail and review flow.
- Set up forums for review of team work, providing early design insights and coaching.
- Identify "big rocks" (hardest problems), increase their visibility, and build multi-release approaches for addressing them.
- Participate as a key member of the GM’s Leadership Team, contributing unique viewpoints to decision-making discussions.
- Engage in group-impacting activities such as D&I initiatives, training, and communications.
- Mentor and grow others, maintaining a pulse on the IC community and advocating for improvements to the employee experience.
- Represent the Group Manager and their LT to the IC community.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 12 + years of experience shipping commercial software.
- 5+ years of experience with C++ and Windows.
- Deep technical experience including leading others.
- Researching new ways of doing things.
- Good communication and data presentation and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple organizations without direct authority.
- Exhibits a growth mindset and humility, while working through high-stakes scenarios.
- Proven experience as an ally who can further a more open, diverse, and inclusive workplace with a goal of everyone feeling like they belong.
- Proven experience leading architecture for enterprise-scale platforms, operating systems, cloud services, or highly distributed systems.
- Demonstrated hypothesis-driven, problem-solving orientation.
- Solid design, coding, debugging, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to think holistically and strategically.
- Leverage understanding of execution rhythm so that the team operates at a high level, knowledge is shared appropriately, and decision making happens at the right levels on the team.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage complex technical products.
- Able to conduct insightful, multi-faceted conversations with senior product and technical decision makers inside and outside Microsoft.
- Conceptualize complex ideas quickly and convey those thoughts to others in a clear, effective and motivating manner.
- Experienced collaborator able to work effectively across broad teams and influence stakeholders of all levels and of all disciplines across Microsoft.
- Proven ability to lead cultural initiatives, having positive impact on team morale and fostering an environment of inclusion.
- Excellent technical judgment.
- Consistently demonstrating maturity and intellectual curiosity, helping the team pursue the best ideas.
- Windows and/or Experience in Artificial Intelligence is an added advantage.
