The Operations Networking Engineering Core team is seeking a Network Development Engineer I in Bengaluru, Karnataka, to design and automate next-generation LAN infrastructure. This role involves automating network reliability and remediation for Amazon's global fulfillment network, working with technologies like Cisco and Juniper, and leveraging scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement horizontally scalable LAN architecture.
- Automate reliability work and self-remediation of network events across thousands of devices.
- Solve complex technical problems involving Cisco switching technology, network automation, and automating manual tasks.
- Design solutions that are scalable, testable, maintainable, and efficient.
- Work on major portions of LAN network technology implementation.
- Operate the largest fulfillment network in the world, working with Cisco and other vendor network devices, config management, network automation tools, and configuration management systems.
- Leverage AI-powered tools to enhance network operations, diagnostics, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with customers and stakeholders to develop project ideas into project plans.
- Participate actively in design reviews and operational reviews.
- Mentor team members.
- Drive root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to network support teams.
Requirements
- 2+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale production networks.
- 2+ or more years of experience with major routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF.
- 2+ or more years of experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Cisco and Juniper.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and operate network solutions that are secure, stable, testable, and maintainable.
- Strong documentation skills with proven methodology for creating clear technical documentation.
- Experience building or enhancing tools, developing best practices, refining operational procedures, and thinking proactively with innovation.
- 2+ years experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.
- 1+ years of experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming.
Desired Qualifications
- 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience.
- 2+ years of major internet routing protocols experience.
- 2+ years of hands on experience in working on Linux/Unix.
- A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior Engineer experience at other organizations.
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus.
- Scripting and or automation skills in a network environment.
- Software development/programming skills are a plus.
