As a Critical Environment Technician at Microsoft, you will maintain critical datacenter infrastructure, performing monitoring, inspection, and maintenance. This role involves troubleshooting, enforcing safety, and developing operating procedures within a fully on-site environment. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience, with a focus on safety and operational reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic monitoring and inspection of critical infrastructure.
- Conduct various types of planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs.
- Participate in equipment troubleshooting and resolve high-level issues with support.
- Enforce all safety and security requirements, including JHAs and toolbox talks.
- Develop and improve methods of operating procedures (MOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Operate and monitor equipment and systems using CMMS and building management systems.
- Respond to abnormal conditions and stabilize them using emergency operating procedures.
- Provide escort and oversight to third-party contractors and vendors.
- Perform physical inspections of critical environment equipment (controls, HVAC, mechanical systems).
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 3+ years work/applied learning experience in mechanical, manufacturing, automotive, electrical, controls, data center, or related fields OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check.
- Authorization to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work under elevated levels of ambient noise, heat, and light.
- Physical ability to perform tasks including climbing ladders/stairs, prolonged standing, and lifting up to 50lbs with assistance.
- Normal visual acuity and color vision for electrical work.
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or technical trade certification AND 5+ years mission-critical services experience OR High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND 7+ years mission critical services experience OR equivalent experience.
- Experience in high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing.
