Manage a team responsible for mechanical and PCB layout aspects of product design for electronic components and vacuum instrumentation products. Requires a qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, team leadership experience, and significant experience in electronics product development and regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a CAD team responsible for mechanical and PCB layout of product design.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to the CAD team.
  • Champion the adoption of best practices and development processes.
  • Strengthen the CAD team through effective recruitment, objective setting, and development.
  • Stay current with manufacturing and CAD design processes to drive improvements.
  • Provide customer support for new and existing projects.
  • Ensure product lifecycle management from concept to production.
  • Oversee and promote the use of precision control/PLM systems.
  • Drive the evolution and maintenance of company standards for product delivery.
  • Support the import and conversion of designs from other Product Companies.
  • Interface with and supervise offshore departments and third-party suppliers.
  • Co-ordinate CAD response to EC requests.

Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Team leadership experience (beneficial, good for lead engineer stepping up).
  • Significant experience in developing and supporting mechanical and PCB design of electronics-based products.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes.
  • Excellent fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to make decisions based on business knowledge and impact.
  • Experience working in a global engineering environment with international teams.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
  • Significant experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry.
  • Strong understanding of product safety and compliance.
  • Some experience in a project management role (beneficial).

Desired Qualifications

  • IMechE, Chartered Mechanical Engineer preferred.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
