Qualcomm is seeking an entry-level Backend Software Engineer to join their Snapdragon Guardian / Compute Sentra team in San Diego, CA. This role involves building and maintaining cloud services, microservices, and APIs for out-of-band device management and IoT security. Ideal for recent graduates with foundational programming and database skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain backend microservices for the Compute Sentra SaaS platform.
  • Implement REST APIs, event listeners, and data models.
  • Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
  • Utilize AI-assisted software development tools for coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and monitor services in the cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with product, QA, and other engineers to deliver features end-to-end.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Foundational programming experience in an object-oriented language (Java, Kotlin, C#, or similar) through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL fundamentals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent English.
  • Must be able to work on-site in San Diego, CA.

Desired Qualifications

  • Exposure to server-side frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot (Java) or equivalents (Flask, FastAPI, .NET).
  • Understanding of REST API design and HTTP fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Basic understanding of microservices architecture.
  • Any exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn.
  • Any exposure to working with AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex.
  • Coursework or projects involving distributed systems, messaging (Kafka), or event-driven design.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
  • Exposure to containers and Kubernetes (Docker, k8s).
  • Awareness of Clean Code, SOLID, and sound software engineering practices.
  • Interest in IoT, device management, or security.
