The SRE L2 Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of Java-based enterprise applications running on WebSphere/JBoss and Oracle databases. This role focuses on L2 production support, advanced troubleshooting, and proactive reliability engineering. The engineer acts as a key operational bridge between development, middleware, and database teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end application operations for Java-based applications hosted on WebSphere/JBoss.
- Ensure uptime, performance, and stability of production environments.
- Perform deployments, environment configuration, and release validation.
- Handle L2 incident troubleshooting for escalated production issues.
- Own resolution of P1/P2 incidents within defined SLAs.
- Perform deep-dive RCA for recurring issues and implement preventive fixes.
- Administer and support IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) or JBoss (WildFly).
- Perform application deployments (EAR/WAR files) and server configuration (JVM tuning, thread pools, datasource configs).
- Manage server clusters and load balancing.
- Analyze logs and troubleshoot runtime issues.
- Work on Oracle database operations including query troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- Implement and operate monitoring/observability dashboards.
- Track application health KPIs (availability, latency, error rates, throughput).
- Develop scripts (Shell/Python/Ansible) to automate operational tasks.
- Automate deployments, health checks, and recovery procedures.
- Collaborate with application development, middleware, infrastructure, and database teams.
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
Requirements
- Strong experience in Java / J2EE applications.
- Hands-on expertise in IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) OR JBoss (WildFly).
- Hands-on expertise in Oracle Database (SQL, performance tuning, troubleshooting).
- Good understanding of Linux/Unix environments.
- Good understanding of application deployment and configuration.
- Experience in L2 Production Support / Application Operations.
- Strong knowledge of Incident, Problem, Change Management (ITIL).
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk.
- Strong knowledge of performance and capacity management.
- Familiarity with SLO / SLA / Error Budget concepts.
- Familiarity with reliability engineering practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset.
- Ability to handle high-pressure production incidents.
- Effective stakeholder communication.
- Collaborative and proactive approach.
- 3–6 years of experience in Java Application Support / SRE / Production Support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / IT or related discipline.
