Saab Australia is hiring a Systems Engineer / Verification Engineer in Adelaide, Australia to validate and assure the performance of their mission-critical Combat Management System. The role involves defining verification strategies, developing test cases, executing formal test events, and generating Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to meet stringent Defence standards.

Responsibilities

  • Define verification strategies, including coverage targets, traceability, test levels, and entry/exit criteria.
  • Review system and software requirements to ensure clarity, completeness, and testability.
  • Develop a deep technical understanding of systems under test and their operational context.
  • Design and develop robust test cases and procedures aligned to VCRM, including boundary and robustness testing, fault injection scenarios, and performance and security validation.
  • Execute and lead formal test events, alongside incremental and integration testing activities.
  • Generate Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to demonstrate compliance with system requirements, safety and security cases, and contractual and regulatory standards.
  • Identify, log, and manage defects; actively participate in triage activities to assess priority and impact.
  • Conduct technical reviews of test artefacts (ATProcs, ATRs, VCRMs).
  • Collaborate closely with Systems, Software, Hardware, Integration, ILS, Safety, and Cyber teams.
  • Provide early feedback into design and integration phases to reduce downstream risk.
  • Support audits, reviews, and independent verification activities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in Verification & Validation within complex software-intensive systems.
  • Strong background in test planning, test case development, and execution.
  • Experience identifying and managing defects within structured engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Ability to think critically and challenge system behaviour and assumptions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Operational or trials experience within a naval or maritime environment.
  • Exposure to Defence standards, safety cases, or mission/system assurance frameworks.
