ABB Inc. is hiring a Senior Project Engineer in Houston, Texas to manage and deliver complex projects in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical industries. Responsibilities include designing, testing, and commissioning Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), resolving technical issues, and coordinating with stakeholders. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and extensive experience with DCS, industry protocols, and project leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and deliver solutions for medium to large complex projects.
  • Resolve technical issues both remotely and at customer sites in the US and abroad.
  • Assist Project Managers with claims, customer specifications, and safety standards.
  • Provide technical details, costs, and deliverables for sales proposals.
  • Execute cost-effective Distributed Control System project deliverables on time in accordance with specifications, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Design, test, and commission Automation Enclosures, Control Logic, and Human Machine Interfaces with ABB or 3rd party Control System.
  • Create and deliver work plans, budgets, and risk assessments.
  • Develop, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and tools.
  • Report inefficiencies and identify improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience working on projects involving Distributed Control Systems.
  • 5 years of experience in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industries.
  • 5 years of experience programming Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface).
  • 5 years of experience following Functional Safety standards and processes.
  • 5 years of experience utilizing Industry standard protocols: Modbus, OPC, and Profibus.
  • 5 years of experience utilizing control logic programming based on P&ID and scripting, structured text, and function blocks control narratives.
  • 5 years of experience designing Control system hardware panels (controllers, I/Os, and switches).
  • 5 years of experience utilizing ethernet networking for industrial automation solutions.
  • 5 years of experience leading projects and coordinating between vendors, customers, and project management.
  • 5 years of experience testing and commissioning Distributed Control Systems.
  • 5 years of experience performing factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
  • 5 years of experience working with simulation and sequence configuration.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically 25%.
  • Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy, but must live within commuting distance of stated office (Houston, TX).

  • Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.
