Ericsson is seeking a passionate Power Amplifier (PA) Designer for its new R&D center in Yokohama, Japan. This role involves defining, designing, simulating, and testing PAs for future radio systems, collaborating with diverse teams, and contributing to product improvement. A Master's or PhD in electronics or a related field is required, along with in-depth PA knowledge and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define PA concepts and architectures to meet power, bandwidth, efficiency, and linearity targets.
  • Conduct product-relevant simulations, schematic/drawing designs, testing, and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with other functional areas (TRX, digital design, power design, system engineers) for PA integration.
  • Work closely with SW/DPD, verification, reliability, and production teams across multiple sites.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and operators to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
  • Work hands-on in the lab with instrumentation to characterize prototypes and optimize designs.
  • Create and maintain HW specifications, design notes, databases, and provide inputs to radio architecture documents.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • University degree: MS in electronics or engineering physics or PhD in a PA-related subject.
  • Several years of experience with power amplifiers and in-depth understanding of PA modes, topologies, and architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with transistor technologies (e.g., LDMOS, GaN).
  • Collaboration with multiple semiconductor device vendors and design for volume production.
  • Practical experience with digital predistortion (DPD) and other PA linearization techniques.
  • Proficiency in RF measurement techniques and hands-on use of RF laboratory equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a structured and practical approach.
  • Good programming and scripting skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant radio and wireless standards and regulatory requirements (3GPP, ETSI, CE, FCC, Telec).
  • Familiarity with 3GPP specifications, such as LTE and NR.
  • Understanding of radio product lifecycle.
  • Curious, self-driven, and motivated to continuously learn and grow.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to innovate.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a focus on collective success and knowledge sharing.
  • Comfortable working in lean and agile development environments.
  • Result-driven with a service-minded and quality-focused approach.
  • Effective working in English; Japanese capability is a strong advantage.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in HFSS or other simulation tools is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with load-pull equipment is considered a bonus.
  • Capability to collaborate in Japanese is a strong advantage.

Benefits

  • Central role in establishing and growing a new R&D center in Yokohama.
  • Opportunities to work on products shaping national and global digital infrastructure.
  • Culture valuing innovation, collaboration, and speaking up.
