As a Rack Lifecycle Tech in AWS Infrastructure Operations, you will be responsible for the physical installation, cabling, and decommissioning of racks within the data center. This hands-on role requires precision in executing structured cabling, power connections, and documentation, ensuring operational readiness and cost-effectiveness for AWS customers. You will work closely with various teams, adhering strictly to SOPs and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Execute rack installations including physical placement, power connections, grounding, and cable management.
  • Perform structured cabling including fiber/copper terminations, patch panel connections, labeling, and dressing.
  • Complete OTDR and power testing, validating results against acceptance thresholds.
  • Execute work orders and tasks, maintaining accurate status updates in workflow management tools.
  • Perform quality checks on completed cabling work, including port map verification and documentation updates.
  • Receive, verify, and stage incoming deliveries of rack, cable, optics, and hardware.
  • Maintain accurate site inventory records for cables, optics, patch cords, and consumables.
  • Complete all required as-built documentation, port maps, test result records, and workflow sign-offs.
  • Execute physical decommission activities, including cable removal, power disconnects, and asset de-tagging.
  • Perform device wipe and media destruction in compliance with AWS policies.
  • Sort, label, and stage recovered assets for RMA, redeployment, or disposal.
  • Adhere to all site-level SOPs, quality standards, and governance frameworks.
  • Complete all required safety training and certifications.
  • Support coordination with DCO, DCEO, Network Engineering, and facilities teams.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups and pre-work briefings.
  • Maintain and develop technical proficiency in structured cabling, fiber optics, and data center infrastructure.
  • Proactively seek feedback to improve personal performance and output quality.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new team members.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of computer hardware troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • 1+ years of computer networking experience.
  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Ability to execute structured cabling, rack installation, and decommission activities with precision and to standard.
  • Following established SOPs and escalating deviations to your team lead.
  • Ensuring every rack is installed correctly, cabled to specification, fully documented, and handed off with zero blockers.
  • Adherence to all EHS protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Accurate use of Rack Lifecycle Team tooling (e.g., Boost, MARS, ALM/DCLM) to record work, track assets, and maintain data integrity.
  • Clear communication on task status, blockers, and schedule adherence.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Familiarity with rack decommissioning including device wipe, media destruction, and asset recovery procedures.
