ASSA ABLOY Door Controls seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer in Monroe, NC, to design, prototype, test, and launch innovative door hardware. Requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering and experience with Solidworks and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Generate designs and drawings using 3D CAD (Solidworks) and GD&T to meet specification requirements for function and manufacturability/assembly.
  • Generate test plans, assemble and install prototypes for testing, and test and collect data on products for design improvement and design validation.
  • Perform mechanical dynamic system design involving springs, gears, clutches, hydraulics, joints, bearings, and pressure chambers.
  • Incorporate various manufacturing processes into product design, including injection molding, die casting, forging, extrusion, stamping, and CNC machining.
  • Apply standard engineering practices such as FMEA, DFMA, and DFSS.
  • Utilize Lean Innovation Principles like Set Based Design, Fail Fast, and Eliminate Waste.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams from design concept to product launch for mechanical and electromechanical products.
  • Create product specifications and implementation plans with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in design and engineering drawing reviews.
  • Provide design support to manufacturing engineers for fixtures, assembly processes, and testing requirements.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or similar Engineering technical major.
  • Minimum 1 year of product design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience supporting product manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Proven analytical skills in Problem Solving, Analysis, and Resolution.
  • Experience working in an innovative, focused, and agile product design team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented, focused, results-oriented, organized, conscientious, multi-tasked, and a team player.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven; able to set and achieve personal goals without supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Experience using Solidworks 3D CAD for part/assembly design and creating engineering drawings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Desired: 3+ years of product design experience in a manufacturing environment while in a design engineering role.
  • Desired: 3+ years of experience supporting product manufacturing and assembly processes for both existing and new products.
  • Experience with ERP and PDM systems is a plus.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical controls/technology is a plus.
