Volvo Group seeks an experienced Geometrical Assurance Engineer (GAE) in Bangalore to ensure dimensional quality for vehicle cabs and components. This role involves establishing robust tolerancing, performing 2D/3D tolerance studies using software like RDnT, and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Implement the complete GAE process for Interior, Exterior, Driving & BIW areas.
- Deliver geometry prerequisites to meet aesthetical, functional, and mountability demands.
- Evaluate concepts for GAE robustness, suggest concept changes, and define measurement protocols.
- Perform master verification and physical-virtual correlation.
- Ensure cross-functional agreements and GAE deliverables are met at each project gate.
- Analyze conflicts and recommend solutions with a QDCF mindset.
- Perform 2D and 3D tolerance studies and optimize tolerances.
- Develop processes and tools to increase efficiency and document lessons learned.
- Define and maintain aesthetic gap and flush target requirements.
- Analyze, define, and maintain BiW, Exterior, and Interior datum targets using the 3-2-1 principle.
- Perform tolerance calculations for BiW, Exterior, and Interior using RDnT software.
- Find solutions to deviations from tolerance calculations.
- Attend project meetings and resolve queries with local and onsite GAE counterparts.
- Perform functional tolerance calculations apart from Gap and Flush areas.
Requirements
- Sound knowledge and application experience of GD&T.
- Awareness of manufacturing technologies, processes, and achievable tolerances.
- Knowledge about 2D and 3D tolerance stackup and experience in stackup calculations.
- Knowledge about Aesthetical requirements – Gap, Flush, Parallelism, Alignment.
- Exposure to automotive interiors, exterior & BIW components.
- Knowledge of design and manufacturing requirements & constraints on typical plastic, sheet metal and tubular components.
- Knowledge of inspection fixtures, CMM measurements and methods.
- Exposure to statistical analysis of the data.
- Clear and crisp communication skills.
- Team-oriented and able to collaborate with cross-functional areas.
- University degree - Bachelor of Engineering/Technology or Equivalent.
- Experience with RDnT/3DCS/Vis VSA or any 3D tolerance analysis software.
- Experience with Catia, Creo, PDM link, MS Office.
Desired Qualifications
- 3-2-1 principle, GD&T application – Define datum targets, apply GD&T callouts to BIW, Exterior and Interior components, assign tolerances.
- Tolerance Stackup – Linear and 3D tolerance analysis using RDnT.
- Knowledge about Aesthetical Gap Flush definitions and Requirements.
- Plastic and sheetmetal components manufacturing process knowledge.
- Measurements tools knowledge – CMM, Measurement report analysis.
- Automotive product development knowledge, dimensional management.
- Check fixture, CMM measurement, Gages knowledge.
