In short

As a Data Center Technician on the Nightshift, you will install, troubleshoot, and maintain IT equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure. This fully on-site role requires a high school diploma and basic computer hardware knowledge, with preferred experience in IT support.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, install, perform diagnostics, troubleshoot, replace, and decommission IT datacenter equipment.
  • Understand the functions and interactions of network and server equipment.
  • Provide input for process improvements to enhance service quality and efficiency.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Comply with Data Center business unit policies, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing information and partnering with other shifts.
  • Complete required security, data management, and Environmental & Health Safety (EHS) training.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of KPIs through reporting dashboards.
  • Escalate and/or seek guidance regarding client interactions.
  • Develop understanding of cross-functional Data Center processes.
  • Complete required training aligned to job focus areas.
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware.
  • Immediately communicate, report, and escalate data center technical or safety related incidents.
  • Perform decommissions, simple changes, and refreshes of infrastructure cabling, network, storage, and server equipment.
  • Process data-bearing devices (DBDs) for destruction.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify causes of technical issues and replace faulty components.
  • Learn about post-execution verification of grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
  • Learn about errors in deployment standards or Network Design Templates (NDTs) and escalate for corrections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Verification of citizenship required due to citizenship-based legal restrictions, verified with a valid passport.
  • Authorization to work in the United States that does not require employer sponsorship.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to travel less than 25%.
