Senior Mainframe Technical Lead - Cobol, DB2, VSAM, JCL, CICS

Job Summary

As an L3 & L4 Mainframe Application Maintenance Engineer, you will be the first line of defense for production incidents and service requests across applications running on Mainframe (COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, DB2). You will triage issues, restore services quickly, execute runbook actions, and maintain accurate incident documentation. You will also support code/config promotions, dataset changes, and batch cycle adjustments, contributing to stability, performance, and compliance with SLAs/SLOs.

Key Responsibilities
Incident & Request Handling

Monitor alerts, job failures, and system dashboards; acknowledge within SLA and follow runbook steps for remediation.
Perform first‑touch troubleshooting (logs, SYSOUT/SYSPRINT review, JCL checks, dataset validations).
Escalate to L4 or development teams based on clear escalation criteria; maintain incidents, timelines, and post‑incident data.

Source & Content Operations

Execute JCL changes, dataset updates, and parameter modifications as per change policies.
Support code/config deployments (COBOL loads, DB2 binds, CICS region updates) under guidance.
Manage service requests such as access approvals, job reruns, file restores, reprocessing, and region refreshes with audit traceability.

SRE Ways of Working

Follow runbooks, SOPs, SLO/error budget practices, and stability guardrails.
Contribute to KB articles, runbook refinements, and known‑error entries.
Perform daily system checks (batch cycle status, CICS region health, dataset space, backups, logs).

Tools & Platforms
Experience supporting Mainframe applications including COBOL programs, JCL workflows, CICS transactions, and DB2 databases. Strong understanding of batch processing, online transaction flows, dataset structures (VSAM/PS/PO), and mainframe debugging. Hands‑on use of utilities such as ISPF, SDSF, File-Aid, Endevor/Changeman, and monitoring tools like OMEGAMON, Mainview, Sysview, along with standard productivity tools (Postman, Notepad++, Git for documentation).

Mandatory Requirements
4–6 years in application support/maintenance across Mainframe systems (COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM). Strong skills in job debugging, log analysis, SQL basics, dataset validation, and batch/online issue resolution. Experience with change management tools (Endevor/Changeman), monitoring dashboards, and ITSM systems (ServiceNow/Jira). Ability to manage L3 & L4 incidents, deployments, configuration updates, and documentation.

Good to Have
Knowledge of REXX/CLIST scripting, exposure to MQ/CICS integration flows, basic performance tuning, IMS experience, and ITIL processes.

KPIs
MTTA/MTTR for L3 & L4 scope, SLA adherence, ticket quality & documentation hygiene, % incidents resolved at L3/L4, and runbook compliance.
