Field Application Engineer

What You Will Do

As a Field Application Engineer, you will be a part of our projects team supporting an OEM at their site several days a week and then in our office when you are not at the client site.  You will participate in Customer’s engineering activities; communicate with the Program Team and proactively respond to the Customer’s needs understanding the impact of vehicle structures and interfaces on antenna performance.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Represent Customer’s interests and position on program issues; manage Customer’s programs and system requirements.
  • Coordinate/lead/participate in Customer engineering meetings and internal team meetings associated with Customer projects and represent Molex at Customer meetings including VAPIR, CAB, SSR, VAPIT and Program Team meetings.
  • Work closely with Customer testing team - efficiently plan and negotiate required electrical and environmental testing requirements.
  • Prepare and issue PDT/ Customer meeting minutes; prepare and present timely responses to action items.
  • Work with Customers plants to ensure program PTR, breakpoints and launch are achieved per plan.
  • Create Customer documentation, including 3660, Saleable Action Plans, AAR, PPAP, VCD and 5-Phases.
  • Assist in the creation and review of project timelines and recommend actions to ensure Customer.

deliverables are met per awarded timeline.

  • Assist Customer to define system requirements; resolve system issues; work with respective

“owners”; initiate change requests.

  • Participate in FMEA process; recommend additional development and testing activities as necessary.
  • Coordinate and participate in engineering studies and experiments at the Customer’s assembly plants including antenna to roof studies, gap measurements, insertion/retention force, and antenna to vehicle centerline rotation.
  • Support troubleshooting activities associated with validation testing failures of roof-mount antennas, and warranty return.
  • Support engineering proposals for simplified validation testing based on engineering simulations and analyses.
  • Coordinate communication of engineering design studies such as keep-out-zone, styled antenna surface, curvature studies, vehicle roof data…etc. between Molex Engineering and Customer

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Automotive related field.
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities and other Molex facilities, including some international travel.  Most of your time will be spent working at your OEM customer site.
  • One year or more working in the automotive industry.

What Puts You Ahead

  • 3 or more years of experience working with vehicle exterior components.
  • Understanding of the impact of vehicle structures and interfaces on antenna performance – experience of electromagnetic compatibility design, development, or testing – experience with requirement definition using structured analysis methods.
  • Experience and knowledge in manufacturing processes and product development
  • Knowledge in the basic mechanics of material and geometry
  • Troubleshooting skills including measurements analysis
  • Knowledge of antenna electrical testing, including high frequency and low frequency tests
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing antenna electrical test results (15648, 15649, 16261, etc)
  • Understanding antenna failure modes due to various environmental testing conditions
