Summary / Role Purpose 

The R&D Engineer contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role you will be part of the Ansys Mechanical team and will work together with the team to develop advanced engineering features in Mechanical flagship product. You will get an opportunity to solve engineering problems in an intuitive and integrated Mechanical environment and will contribute to advanced engineering features like fracture mechanics, linear dynamics, coupled field analysis etc. You will also get to experience of how software design principles apply in an engineering discipline to simulate physics for next generation products. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Develop new features using object-oriented programming language in state-of-the-art Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software application based on the Finite Element Method (FEA) 

Engages a network of expert professionals to collaborate and accomplish development objectives  

Investigate defects in production code. 

Develop unit tests for the developed features. 

Analyze results and improve the usability of the software. 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer Science or related engineering field   

Design and implementation of object-oriented application features using programming languages such as C++ or C#, common data structures, and numerical methods. 

Exposure to scripting languages such as Python or equivalent  

Excellent written and oral communication skills 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

Visual Studio IDE, development of plugins or application add-ins, unit testing methodologies, 

COM usage and .NET framework. 

Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment 

Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team 

Experience in using Microsoft Visual Studio and Software Configuration management tools (SVN, GIT)  

Coursework in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)  

Knowledge of agile development methodologies  

Experience in doing research in engineering discipline like fracture mechanics, reduced order models, additive manufacturing etc. or computer science domain like distributed computing, parallel programming, artificial intelligence/machine learning etc.  

Knowledge of software design patterns and test-driven development

This is a very fast paced role requiring a “try often, fail fast” kind of mindset.      Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience   Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.   Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+0.   Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial CAE, CAD, EDA, PLM software packages.   Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in writing and speaking English.   Strong organizational and time management skills, possesses a sense of urgency.      Preferred Qualifications and Skills   Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: MS+0.   Knowledge of the use of Ansys Electronics products (such as HFSS / Maxwell) or other commercial or in-house thermal simulation codes is a plus.  Proficiency in Python scripting and knowledge of the basics of machine learning would be a plus.   Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as with others in a diverse team environment.   Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to communicate effectively.   Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time.
