Saab is hiring Installation Assemblers at its West Lafayette, IN facility to build the aft fuselage for the T-7A Red Hawk military trainer. This role involves executing standardized procedures for system installation and final assembly, with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement. Paid on-site training is provided through an Aerospace installation training academy.
Responsibilities
- Execute standardized working procedures to deliver 100% quality for system installation and final assembly on aircraft fuselage.
- Deliver work according to quality requirements and work instructions in a team-based environment.
- Support daily continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale.
- Operate powered hand-tools, including angular drilling.
- Perform structural assembly operations, including precision installation of aircraft systems, landing gear, and harnesses in a FOD critical environment.
- Complete functional and pressure testing of installed systems.
- Work with precision on "Class A" curved surfaces, including touch-up painting.
- Sign off on completed work according to specification and on the work of others.
- Support training and knowledge transfer to new employees.
- Contribute to a positive and productive work environment aligned with company values.
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant mechanical assembly or manufacturing experience required.
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Ability to execute appropriate working methods and select correct hand tools for quality and efficiency.
- Ability to work with standardized procedures for high repeatability in an advanced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, twisting, grasping, gripping, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, and reaching throughout a normal workday.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions including the use of handheld power tools.
- Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently, and up to fifty (50) pounds on occasion.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekend overtime when required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in aeronautics is a plus.
- Technical degree or certification in aviation assembly, mechanics, or aircraft maintenance is a plus.
- Experience in delivering high levels of quality in compliance with ISO/AS9100 standards is a plus.
- Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings and specifications in written and digital format is a strong preference.
