We are seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to manage IMS in a parallel sysplex environment, including installation, configuration, and system programming. The role involves establishing database management policies, leading complex migrations to IBM IMS Tools, and conducting customer training sessions.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure and manage IMS in a parallel sysplex environment
- Install, configure and manage IBM IMS Tools
- IMS systems programming
- Establish policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, security, maintenance and utilization
- Review new versions of IMS for functionality and advise on benefits
- Evaluate change requests and determine impact to assigned clients
- Vendor consultations for problems and questions
- DR recovery of application objects
- Lead and execute complex migrations to IBM IMS Tools from 3rd party products
- Develop project plans with defined phases (Planning, Conversion, Implementation, Cutover) and timelines
- Conduct customer training sessions and develop presentation materials for IMS Tools and migration processes
Requirements
- Knowledge of IMS database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM
- Full function database organization types
- HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM
- Definition and use of LOGICAL databases
- HALDB (partitioned): PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, PSINDEX, etc.
- Fast Path databases (DEDBs)
- Database Design and related utilities
- DBD source coding and DBDGEN
- PSBGEN source coding and PSBGEN
- Understanding of how databases are processed using secondary indexes (PROCSEQ=)
- Correct usage of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking
- ACBGEN
- Online Change
- IMS Catalog and IMS Management of ACBs
- Database monitoring
- Space management
- Database dataset space reporting for proactive outage avoidance
- Ability to immediately fix an out of space condition for a VSAM database dataset
Desired Qualifications
- BMC IMS Tools experience
- Broadcom IMS Tools experience
- Z/OS scheduling expertise
- IMS DBA experience
- Troubleshooting and solving production database issues
