ABB is seeking a Senior Hoisting Applications Engineer in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. This full-time hybrid role involves acting as a design authority for mine hoist electrical, control, and drive systems, ensuring compliance with safety and cybersecurity standards. Responsibilities
- Act as design authority for mine hoist solutions, focusing on electrical, control, drive systems, and functional safety.
- Plan and execute assignments on complex projects, ensuring adherence to contract specifications, quality, safety, and cybersecurity standards.
- Serve as the technical interface for the complete hoisting system, collaborating with mechanical, control, safety, and commissioning teams.
- Act as a technical authority for customers, shaping hoisting solutions and incorporating feedback.
- Deliver projects including new hoist installations, upgrades, and life-cycle extensions.
- Create work plans and cost estimates, ensuring quality and timely implementation within budget.
- Coordinate with relevant functions to ensure proper manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning.
- Support and execute on-site commissioning activities.
- Mentor engineering colleagues on design translation, best practices, and lessons learned.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent experience valid in Australia).
- Hold, or be eligible for, professional engineering registration within Australia.
- Experience in mine hoisting systems or safety-critical heavy industrial applications (e.g., winders, draglines, cranes, large drives).
- Strong capability in electrical power systems, large variable speed drives, control systems, and industrial networks.
- Working knowledge of functional safety standards and lifecycle practices (e.g., IEC 62061/61508 or equivalent).
- Experience supporting manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Confidence in engaging with customers, site teams, and cross-functional engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, share lessons learned, and contribute to engineering standards.
