In short
Lead Design Engineer responsible for the full project lifecycle of high-current generator excitation systems and bus work, from concept to commissioning. This hybrid role in Noida requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree and 8-16 years of experience in electrical/mechanical design, with a strong emphasis on AutoCAD and 3D modeling for layouts and bus bar design.
Responsibilities
- Lead project engineering for high-current generator excitation systems, covering the full project lifecycle.
- Develop mechanical layouts using AutoCAD and 3D design tools for high-current applications (5,000 A to 10,000 A).
- Lead complete bus work design, including routing, dimensions, clearances, thermal performance, and short-circuit withstand.
- Create and review general arrangement drawings, cabinet layouts, bus bar drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Coordinate with electrical design, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to ensure practical and safe designs.
- Support manufacturing quality processes and design-for-manufacturing reviews.
- Apply 3D design practices to validate fitment, accessibility, and serviceability.
- Manage technical execution for bus work and layout design scope, including schedule and deliverables.
- Support site execution and installation planning for high-current systems.
- Review site installation conditions and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
- Resolve mechanical layout, bus work, and wiring interface issues.
- Incorporate lessons learned into future design improvements.
- Prepare installation support records and handover documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline.
- Eight (8) to sixteen (16) years of experience in generator excitation systems, high-current electrical systems, electrical panel design, power electronics, or relevant industrial power equipment.
- Proven AutoCAD or relevant CAD experience in designing mechanical layouts for high-current electrical systems (5,000 A to 10,000 A).
- Mandatory hands-on 3D design experience for equipment layout, bus work arrangement, fitment checks, clearances, routing, accessibility, and manufacturability validation.
- Strong capability to lead complete high-current bus work design with high accuracy.
- Ability to create and review general arrangement drawings, cabinet layouts, bus bar drawings, fabrication details, assembly drawings, BOMs, interface drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing quality processes, including design release checks and dimensional inspection.
- Understanding of high-current electrical equipment design practices (thermal performance, clearances, supports, cooling, safety).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver accurate drawings and manufacturing inputs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to work with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and site teams, following safety and quality protocols.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience with Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and manufacturing drawing generation.
- Hands-on experience designing high-current generator excitation systems or similar electrical power systems (5,000 A to 10,000 A).
- Advanced knowledge of high-current bus work design (material selection, sizing, joint design, thermal behaviour, short-circuit forces).
- Experience translating 3D layouts into accurate fabrication drawings and assembly drawings.
- Strong exposure to manufacturing quality processes for high-current electrical equipment.
- Experience working with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturing teams to resolve design and production issues.
