Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of HGV Technicians within the workshop.
  • Allocate and prioritise work to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and company standards.
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and workshop housekeeping.
  • Carry out quality checks and ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy before release.
  • Diagnose and assist with complex technical issues when required.
  • Monitor workshop productivity, efficiency, and job progress.
  • Liaise with service advisors, transport operators, customers, and other departments.
  • Support technician training, development, and performance.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork, job cards, and maintenance records are completed accurately.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and safety-focused workshop environment.
  • Work closely with the team to create high levels of morale and focus for timely and quality work.
  • Communicate effectively with the Workshop Controller and CSRs to ensure technicians have valid job specifications and time budgets.
  • Manage customer expectations by working with each stage of the Genuine Volvo Service process.
  • Maximise shift performance through effective problem-solving, coaching, and development.

Requirements

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Workshop experience, ideally in trucks/buses, with some supervisory know-how.
  • A strong communicator who can get the best out of a team.
  • Organised, proactive, and customer-focused.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of technicians in their daily activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work in an organised and methodical manner, ensuring all daily tasks are completed.
  • Ability to delegate work to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to operate GDS and Impact systems, specific to the GVS process stages.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.

Desired Qualifications

  • HGV licence is a big plus.
