Co-Op: Manufacturing Engineer - Equipment Maintenance (Spring 2027)

This co-op position focuses on building an industrial maintenance organization by improving equipment uptime and enabling production. You will develop maintenance strategies, identify root causes of failures, and implement process/equipment design changes to reduce downtime. The role involves developing job plans, implementing continuous improvement systems, and leading root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop precision job plans for routine, complex, and proactive maintenance tasks specifying tasks, tools, resources, parts required to complete, and time estimates.
  • Implement systems & processes to drive continuous improvement such as management of change and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Develop proactive maintenance strategy to reduce unplanned downtime – including preventative and predictive techniques and autonomous (operator-driven) maintenance activities.
  • Determine opportunities for design changes to improve equipment reliability, design/collaborate with engineering to implement and using data to measure improvement.
  • Review, prioritize, plan, and coordinate with maintenance supervisors for ad-hoc and routine maintenance activities to ensure safe work and minimal production interruptions.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities for downtime/quality/rate deviations – identify problem and impact, determine root cause utilizing 5 why/fishbone techniques and implement necessary preventative actions.
  • Reduce costs through optimization of maintenance tasks and equipment reliability enhancements.

Requirements

  • Working towards a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited school.
  • Completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the internship.
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Co-ops may work up to 40 hours per week.
  • Office 365, Power Automate, Power BI skills preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD programs.
  • Analytics skills or experience a plus.
  • Ability to design basic electrical circuits and experience with PLC a plus.
