In short

Autoliv India is hiring an Advanced Engineer - Materials CAE in Bangalore to lead advanced simulation and virtual validation of material behavior for safety-critical automotive products. This role requires expertise in constitutive material modeling, finite element analysis, and correlation with physical tests to ensure robust designs and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain advanced material models for polymers, metals, composites, and textiles.
  • Define and document material test programs and liaise with test labs for data acquisition.
  • Perform inverse modeling and parameter optimization for material model calibration.
  • Integrate advanced material definitions into FE models and assess their influence on performance.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses and probabilistic assessments for material variability.
  • Prepare reproducible modeling procedures and material libraries.
  • Correlate CAE predictions with test results and refine models.
  • Provide pre-test predictions, post-test analyses, and documentation.
  • Recommend additional test methods to close modeling gaps.
  • Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing, and quality teams.
  • Advise project teams on material-driven design choices and mitigation measures.
  • Engage with suppliers and external labs for material characterization and validation.
  • Drive improvements in material modeling workflows and automate calibration routines.
  • Promote advanced techniques like multi-scale modeling and viscoelastic formulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to training materials.

Requirements

  • 4-8 years of experience in materials CAE, constitutive modeling, or related roles within automotive, aerospace, or other safety-critical industries.
  • Proven experience with finite element solvers and material modeling tools (e.g., Abaqus, LS-DYNA, Ansys or equivalent) and implementing custom material models.
  • Strong knowledge of constitutive models for metals, polymers, composites, and textiles including damage and failure criteria.
  • Practical experience correlating material models with experimental data and interpreting measurement results.
  • Proficiency in pre/post-processing tools, scripting for model calibration and automation (Python, Matlab or similar), and data analysis.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Mechanics, or a related discipline.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with restraint systems (seat belts, airbags), occupant protection, or related safety domains is desirable.
  • Postgraduate qualification is advantageous.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to change lives by contributing to automotive safety systems.
  • Work on safety-critical products with a global leader.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
